Kiwanis and Community Partners Serve 320 Families at Second Harvest Food Distribution

On October 8, the Kiwanis Club of Coeur d’Alene once again partnered with Second Harvest Inland Northwest to help distribute much-needed food to local families. The event, held at Community United Methodist Church in Coeur d’Alene, brought together volunteers from several organizations, all united by a common goal: helping our neighbors facing food insecurity.

Joining our Kiwanis volunteers were members of the church’s United Women in Faith, Wells Fargo Bank, our own Aktion Club, and other dedicated community volunteers.

An Early Start to a Busy Day

The need for food assistance was evident well before the distribution was scheduled to begin. Cars began lining up a couple of hours ahead of the official start time, prompting organizers to get things underway early.

For the next four and a half hours, volunteers worked together to direct traffic, organize food, and load groceries into waiting vehicles. The steady stream of families kept everyone busy, but the teamwork and positive attitudes made the day a rewarding experience.

By the end of the event, 320 families had received food assistance!

Our Aktion Club Members Step Up!

One of the most gratifying aspects of the day was the participation of several members of our Aktion Club.

Aktion Club is a Kiwanis-sponsored service organization – affiliated with Specialized Needs Recreation – for adults with disabilities, providing opportunities to develop leadership skills, build friendships, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Our Aktion Club members enthusiastically joined the effort, working alongside fellow volunteers and taking genuine pride in helping others. Their energy, smiles, and eagerness to serve were wonderful to see.

For these members, the event was more than an opportunity to volunteer. It was a chance to make a real difference in the lives of their neighbors – and they clearly loved every minute of it!

Their participation was a great reminder that everyone has something valuable to contribute, and service is most meaningful when everyone has an opportunity to participate.

Community Partnerships Make It Possible

Events like this demonstrate what can happen when local organizations come together in service.

We extend our sincere thanks to Second Harvest Inland Northwest for its continuing work to address hunger in our region, to Community United Methodist Church United Women in Faith for hosting the distribution, Wells Fargo Bank, our Aktion Club, and all the other volunteers who generously contributed their time and energy.

We are especially proud of our Aktion Club members and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside them.

320 families served. Four and a half hours of teamwork. One community coming together to make a difference.

That’s what Kiwanis is all about!
