Head Start Reading Program Kicks Off a New School Year

Our Head Start Reading Program is back for another school year!

On September 15, Ursula, a member of both the Kootenai County Aktion Club and Specialized Needs Recreation, helped kick off this year’s program by reading Owen by Kevin Henkes to a classroom of Head Start children.

The kids gathered around for the story and, just as we’ve seen in past years, the visit was a great success. It’s always fun to see how quickly the children become engaged when one of our volunteer readers opens a book and begins sharing a story with them.

Ursula is pictured above with Linda Mayers, who coordinates the Kiwanis Club of Coeur d’Alene’s Head Start Reading Program along with Niki Palmer. Linda and Niki keep our volunteers organized throughout the school year and make these special reading visits possible.

We’re looking forward to another great year of sharing books, smiles, and a love of reading with our local Head Start children!
